Asif Basra dies by suicide: Hansal Mehtra, Manoj Bhajpayee and other Bollywood stars express shock – Times of India


Bollywood actor, Asif Basra best known for his role in ‘Jab We Met’ and co-starring with Sushant Singh Rajput in ‘Kai Po Che’ has died by suicide, it has been reported.

The actor was reportedly found dead at a private guest house in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh on Thursday. In a statement to ANI, SSP Kangra Vimukt Ranjan confirmed, “Film actor Asif Basra was found hanging in a private complex in Dharamshala. Forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter.”

On hearing the news, filmmaker Hansal Mehta expressed his shock in a tweet that read, “Asif Basra! Can’t be true… This is just very, very sad.”

Reacting to the filmmaker’s post, actor Manoj Bhajpayee, who worked with the Basra just before the locked, said in a tweet, “What? This is too shocking!! Shot with him just before Lockdown!!! Oh My God!!!”

Replying to the same, Mehta agreed, “Very shocking.”

As news of Basra’s passing broke, fans, friends and members of the film industry also took to social media to mourn his demise.


His last Bollywood appearance was in 2019 release ‘The Tashkent Files’, wherein he shared the frame with Shweta Basu Prasad, Naseeruddin Shah and Mithun Chakraborty.

Asif Basra had also played an important role in National Award winning Gujarati film ‘Wrong Side Raju’
