After a long hibernation, the theaters opened yesterday with new releases. But to great surprise, the response in all centers is quite poor. The public showed no interest in coming to the theaters.
All theaters were opened in Telangana state and partially opened in AP. The occupation in both states is miserable.
Many assumed the weekends would work wonders. But since Timmarusu has mediocre talk and Ishq has landed a fail talk, the collections for both films are miserable.
Can the biggies release their movies in August right now?
There is an opinion that the audience has not come to the theaters because the films released this week are small.
Some say that everyone who has come to the theaters are only those who have come out of hibernation, but not with the interest in movies.
Until and unless a Jathi Rathnalu or an Uppena comes and hits, the industry may not find the oxygen.
On the other hand, the curfew in AP will be extended to August 14 (10pm to 6am). The second shows can therefore not be shown.
But the exhibitors are happy to hear from AP government sources that permission would be given to increase ticket prices after the curfew was lifted. If that happens, they may show some interest in opening the theaters full of new movies.
All said and done, if the situation in Kerala with a huge spike in Covid-19 cases spreads to other states and eventually to the Telugu states then needless to say the theater business is going to hit the snag again.
