CAT Exam is India’s one of the most popular national level MBA entrance exams leading a pathway to all the IIMs. The common Admission Test (CAT) exam is conducted on a rotational basis by the top six IIMs i.e., IIM Calcutta, IIM Bangalore, IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Lucknow, and IIM Indore. The organizing body for the CAT 2022 exam is IIM Bangalore.
CAT 2022 Notification is expected to release on July 31, 2022, on the official portal i.e., https://iimcat.ac.in. CAT 2022 registrations are expected to commence from the first week of August 2022 till the third week of September 2022. The examination will be conducted on November 27, 2022 (tentative). For the current year, the application fee is INR 2,200 for the General category students. For the reserved category, the application fee is INR 1,100. Aspiring candidates will have a choice of selecting up to 6 cities to appear for the exam.
To appear for CAT 2022, the general category candidates must possess a minimum of 50% of marks in graduation, whereas categories belonging to SC/ ST or PwD must possess a minimum of 45% of marks. Moreover, aspirants who are in the final year of graduation can also apply for the exam. Also, there is no upper age limit for registration.
CAT 2022 exam will be held in an online mode in three sessions with a duration of 2 hours. As per the revised exam pattern (introduced in 2021), CAT 2022 have a total of 66 questions divided into 3 sections, i.e., Verbal Ability and Reading Comprehension (VARC), Quantitative Ability (QA), Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning (DILR). For every right answer, the candidates will be awarded 3 marks. Whereas, for every wrong answer, 1 mark will be deducted.

CAT 2022: Eligibility Criteria
To apply for CAT 2022, aspirants need to fulfil certain eligibility criteria:
- Aspirants to apply for CAT 2022, must possess a bachelor’s degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognized institute/ university. However, the minimum percentage of candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PwD is 45% of the marks.
- There is no age limit to apply for CAT 2022.
- To apply for CAT 2022 exam, work experience is not required.

Other MBA Entrance Exams
Similar to CAT, there are other MBA entrance exams in India such as SNAP, XAT, IIFT, TISSNET, CMAT, IBSAT, etc. For the academic year 2022, these exams will take place from November 2022 to February 2023. To get a seat in one of the IIMs in India, CAT is the most preferred exam. Every year, more than 1,200 MBA colleges select aspirants for admission on the basis of marks secured in the CAT exam. The second most popular MBA entrance exam after CAT is the Common Management Aptitude Test (CMAT) which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). On number third, is the Xavier Aptitude Test (XAT), conducted by the XLRI Jamshedpur.
The minimum requirement to get into a B-School in India is either the CAT exam or GMAT. There are six nationalized exams approved by AICTE- CAT, GMAT, MAT, ATMA, NMAT, CMAT, XAT, etc. Amongst all the exams, GMAT is the only exam accepted by a large number of B-Schools whereas other national-level MBA exams are accepted by limited institutes only.
Further, these MBA entrance exams in India are conducted at three different levels:
- National level: Most popular National Level exams are CAT, CMAT, and MAT
- State-level: Most popular State Level exams are MAH-CET, KMAT, TSICET, and TANCET
- University/College level: It includes XAT, IRMASAT, SNAP, and IIFT Exam.
Aspirants who are going to appear for CAT 2022 exam can practice the previous year’s question papers to get an idea about the type of question asked in the exam. Candidates aiming for admission to IIMs must score 99 percentile in the CAT exam. For other top tier B-schools, other than IIMs, the CAT percentile between 80-90 is preferred.
