Heartbroken Rajkummar Rao mourns ‘Kai Po Che!’ co-star Asif Basra’s demise – Times of India


Actor Rajkummar Rao has expressed his grief and shock over the death of his former co-star Asif Basra.

According to ANI, the 53-year-old actor was found hanging in a private complex. “Forensic team is at the spot and police is investigating the matter,” SSP Kangra Vimukt Ranjan, Himachal Pradesh, said in a statement.

Rajkummar, who shared the screen with Asif, in the superhit film ‘Kai Po Che!’ along with late Sushant Singh Rajput and Amit Sadh, took to his Twitter handle to share a photo and a note that read, “Rest in Peace sir.”

Rajkummar’s tweet is one among the many that came in this evening since news broke of Asif’s tragic passing. Everyone from former co-stars like Kareena Kapoor Khan to Manjo Bhajpayee, Randeep Hooda and many friends including filmmaker Imtiaz Ali, Onir, Hansal Mehta and many others sent out their notes of condolences and remembered the star for his great works and performances.

According to reports, Basra took his by hanging himself with his pet dog’s leash.

Although it has been reported that he died by apparent suicide, police have confirmed that an investigation into the cause of his death is currently underway.

“The actor was found hanging when the police and a team of forensic experts arrived on the spot. The police are investigating the case and further details are awaited,” SSP Ranjan said.

As per the police, just before the alleged suicide, he had returned from a stroll in the locality along with his dog.

No suicide note has been recovered.

Over the span of twenty years, the actor has appeared in films like Black Friday, Jab We Met, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Kai Po Che and Ek Villain among others.
