In his address to the sanitation committee members during the event, PM said, “Be it Vindhyachal or Bundelkhand – despite having ample resources, these regions became regions of deficiencies.”
“These regions have eseveral rivers but have come to be known as drought-affected regions. So many people were forced to migrate from here,” the Prime Minister said.
PM Modi said that in a over a year of the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ scheme, “over 2.60 cr families have been provided access to clean drinking water through taps at their homes.”
Village water and sanitation committees have been constituted in all these villages, and they will have the responsibility of operation and maintenance. “Projects started today will further speed it up,” PM said.
The projects are planned to be completed in 24 months under the ‘Jal Jeevan Mission‘ announced by the Prime Minister on August 15 last year.
The projects aim at providing functional household tap connections to every rural house of the country by 2024.
