BENGALURU: India’s star batsman Rohit Sharma is learnt to have cleared the fitness test at the National Cricket Academy here.
Rohit, who led Mumbai Indians to the title victory in the Indian Premier League last month, checked into the NCA on November 19 after being laid low by a hamstring injury. He missed four of Mumbai Indians matches due to the injury before returning for the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on November 3.
The 33-year-old, who was left out of the limited overs series in the ongoing India’s tour of Australia, was named in the last two Tests of the four-match series which begins in Adelaide on December 17.
His selection was subject to a fitness clearance from the NCA. Rohit, went through batting and fielding drills earlier this week and concluded the same on Thursday. It is understood, Rohit, on Friday, left for Mumbai on a chartered flight. The top-order batsman did not want to take a chance and travel on a commercial flight. Subject to BCCI nod, he is likely to leave for Australia over the weekend via Dubai.
In Australia, Rohit will have to undergo a mandatory 14-day quarantine before joining the team for the third Test scheduled to begin on January 7 at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
