Making the official announcement, was actress Dimple Kapadia, who features in a prominent role alongside John David Washington, Robert Pattinson and Elizabeth Debicki. Breaking the exciting news on Instagram, Dimple said in a video, “I am extremely delighted to announce the release of Christopher Nolan’s ‘Tenet’ on the 4th of December, all across cinemas in India. It has been an honour for me to be associated with this project. The film has some spectacular action sequences, twists and turns that you can only enjoy best on the big screen. So see you all there on the 4th of December in cinemas.”
After the Maharashtra Government announced reopening of cinemas in the state from November 5 with 50 per cent of seating capacity outside containment zones, it is reported that ‘Tenet’ makers were keen to go ahead with a theatrical release. “Had the announcement come a week earlier, they would have arrived on the Diwali weekend,” said a source in a statement to Mumbai Mirror.
India will be among the last countries where ‘Tenet’ will be releasing, owing to the continued closure of cinemas. It opened in the UK on August 26 and the US on September 3. It was appreciated by the critics and surpassed general expectations as far as the opening weekend predictions were concerned.
The film’s box-office performance reportedly forced other Hollywood biggies like ‘Wonder Woman 1984’, the Bond thriller ‘No Time To Die’, Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ to push their releases.
The film, also featuring Kenneth Branagh, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Michael Caine, Clemence Poesy and Himesh Patel, was originally scheduled to release on July 17.
